Did you see Road Wars on Wednesday night? I watch it whenever I can. It's interesting to see the types of risks that desperate drivers are prepared to take to avoid justice. But I wonder if it's in danger of losing credibility just as "Police Camera Action" seems to have done.

Last night, "Pat and Carl" were featured as two cops patrolling the Thames Valley. Their message was to stress the importance of wearing seatbelts. "Carl" was seen gesturing to errant drivers by tugging his own seatbelt, and at least two motorists were spoken to for not wearing theirs. "It's there for just one reason", proclaims Carl... But in the next segment, we had another team. I think the driver was "Jim". Jim is on a high speed pursuit. But guess what? Jim was not wearing his seatbelt... :nono:

Shortly afterwards, the view from the police car was shown, driving along a narrow country lane in pursuit of a car which had failed to stop. Lee Boardman stressed that "driving along narrow country lanes such as this one at 60mph is highly dangerous". Just as he got to the word "dangerous", the police car was passing a :nsl: sign. I laughed my arse off! :rotfl:

In this and the sister programme, "Street Wars", we have narrator Lee Boardman very much towing the official line, including "one third of all road accidents being speed related". In Street Wars, he heaps praise on the achievements of CCTV and the police for cutting crime dramatically, but almost in the next breath announces that there's been a 20% increase in knife crime in the past two years.

I happened to see it tonight. First two were probably caused by excessive fuel tax. One guy had been stealing petrol, and ended up driving all over the place to get around the obstacles put in the road (road humps, swerve points, etc.). Of course if they weren't there he wouldn't have driven on the pavement. If fuel wasn't so heavily taxed maybe he could afford it.
Second one was a guy who couldn't afford to get the car MOTed. Hmm.
Third one was some kids who were trying to steal a motorbike. They'd damaged it. They were messing around and a little abusive. Then after being arrested were let off without charge.
They also showed some american cop using pepper spray in a 15 year old girl's face and at the end of one chase it looked rather like the police (UK ones now) were beating the guy up, but it was cut there.

I think you've managed to descend further beyond the depths of stupidity now.

Lee Boardman has clearly been told that the words "idiot" and "numty" were getting used too often and he has to vary things a bit. I found him calling people "doughnuts" funny enough but when he used the phrase "This valve can't even stay on his own side of the road" i nearly fell off my chair!

Yes! I heard him call someone a valve :rotfl: What is his accent? I want to say Liverpool, but I'm not sure.

I find these programs highly irritating.
They usuallly feature criminals trying to escape from the clutches of the law, driving insanely in their efforts to do so. The narrators comments like..
"Not caring about other road users" etc are just moronic.
They're trying to escape the cops FFS! They are hard going to MSM, indicate, wait at the pelican etc are they

He's a thoroughbred Mancunian.

What happen to the 15 year old girl who sprayed a pepper spray? We knew that it's a harmful gun.

i can't watch these shows.... pretty much every chase involves at least one instance of the crim and the pursuing police doing identical manouvres whilst one is berated for their dangerous driving the other is praised for their skill and bravery.

:drive1:

(sorry just realised ive been suckered into a spamly resurrected thread)

Just seen an item on this show on Sky 2, police stop driver who admitted having taken heroin about an hour previously, and eventually allow him on his way as "they know where to find him if they want to talk to him again". As he gets back in the car they comment to one another that "he's in a bad way".

Why on earth did they let him get back behind the wheel then!?!? :x

They probably had an urgent call that someone had been clocked by Community Speedwatch doing 35mph in a 30mph limit.
