Gets rid of the maintenance/repair costs of the various assets and passes them to commercial enterprise. Who will doubtless have to raise prices....interesting that the other two would also do the same but "not at the moment". Hmm. Election soon, so they would say that anyway.
If you seriously thought that the conservative parties "bonfire of public services" would only mean lower car and fuel tax you must be slightly under the 'fluence of something.
Number one:NO (that's NO) party is going to lower fuel tax or car tax. Let me repeat that: NO PARTY (not without putting it on something else...like ROAD PRICING) ( which IS going to arrive no matter WHICH party is in power)
Look at the machinations at Cambridge to get congestion charging in.
The infrastructure is already being installed...and with sales and private financing of roads coming along quite well the actual arrival of pricing and collection is only a matter of time.
