There is a junction exactly like this one the Macclesfield to Leek road, and to complicate matters, the side road is actually a short cut that reduces the journey by a few miles for light traffic, so all local cars take the exit while heavy vehicles and traffic unfamiliar with the road follow the A road.

I personnaly would not indicate, because if I was the person waiting to come out I would be very confused by such an indication. To me it would imply that the the driver was intending to enter a driveway either just before or just after the corner, and when they didn't make such a turn I would swear gentry under my breath and question the inteligence of the other driver.

As the driver on the main road, there is no reason to make such an indication, and it would also confuse any following vehicles or others approaching from the other direction that might also assume entry into a driveway, and considerately slow down more than the corner requires.

Personally I would maintain a speed that would allow safe negotiation of the corner while watching the front wheels of the stationary vehicle, because it is a lot easier to tell if the car is creeping forward (thus implying the intention to cross in front of me), and if I saw any such creep would slow down further as necessary. Obviously there comes a point when I would not be able to avoid the vehicle pulling out in front of me, but by then I would be so close that such a manoever would be suicide on behalf of the vehicle pulling out and definitely not my responsibility.

One thing I dislike more than people not indicating is when they indicate too late.
This morning I was coming up behind a lorry when his brakelights went on and he pulled to the left of the road. I thought he was stopping and so I started preparing to pass him. Then his right indicator went on and he simultaneously started turning. Luckily I still had plenty of room to stop, but it could have been dodgy had I been closer to him.

Cheers
Peter

I don't like to generalise but the worst offenders for NOT indicating at all or taking notice of others indicating are cyclists. I know there are good and bad riders but I think you need to be a car or motorcycle driver to know how critical indicating can be.

When I was on my bike test I came to a set of lights indicating left. As the lights changed I did a left and right lifesaver then as I went to pull away a cyclist went hurtling by on my left side. I nearly cleaned him up... :o If I had been a car he could have ended up dead.

I agree with you - there is no point in cyclists complaining about motorists if they don't display the actions themselves that they would like from the motorists, e.g. stopping at red lights, giving way to pedestrians, signalling their intentions clearly, being clearly visible, using lights in poor visibility conditions. I will however draw the line at waiting in a long traffic queue unless some kind motorist is pulled up against the kerb "for my protection" - but we've had all the pros and cons of this before.
