The following Conservative PR embargoed for midnight:

Please note Embargo: 00.01 Monday 25th April

Drivers say motoring has worsened under Labour

Commenting on a RAC survey which concludes that most drivers feel that motoring has worsened since Labour came to power, the Shadow Transport Secretary, Tim Yeo said:

“Mr Blair’s Government pledged to reduce congestion by 5 per cent by 2010 but this was all talk. Instead, congestion has risen and road conditions have deteriorated. There is also the suspicion that speed cameras are not saving lives but boosting revenue for Safety Camera Partnerships.

“The Conservative Party is determined to end Labour’s war on the sensible motorist and ease congestion on our roads.

“We will establish a congestion relief fund, from which local authorities will bid for money for local schemes and construct extra road space at key congestion hot-spots. We will look to build
new roads with private sector help.

“Only traffic police can catch the most dangerous drivers. By recruiting 5,000 thousand more police, each year, we will make it possible for chief constables to restore the number of traffic
police to the level we left behind in 1997. We will abolish the Safety Camera Partnerships and review every speed camera and speed limit to encourage confidence in speed limits.”

a message to politicians before the election by joining the M4 Protest

issued £700million pounds in fines and made road safety worse. Clearly

Excellent - and a specific commitment to abolish the Scamera Partnerships :)

We will never get everything we want, but doing that, and removing the incentive to raise revenue, is the single biggest change that is needed in road safety policy.

Certainly gets my vote Image

Well done

The pressure on RAC to start focusing on their members and not non-car drivers seems to be paying off and the commitment from the Conservatives to scrap the scameraships is a major step forward.

Suggest you give yourself a pat on the back and have a celebration, hope to meet you on 30th.

TC

I've not seen this PR yet on the Conservatives' website:
