We go to Wales less and less these days. Not seen any improvement in actual driving standards on the occasions we go there either. More proof fromreal experience that driving standards may be slower - but hazard percception are limited to "spot the scam!" and basic COAST principles ppear to be lacking.
I find coast goes out the window when I am driving in a new area with lots of cameras.
On roads I know, I drive concentrating on the important things and automatically slow down, check speed etc. at all cameras without taking too much concentration off the road ahead.
On new roads however I am constantly scanning ahead for cameras, checking speedo and consequently driving in a poorer manner.
Money is tight at the moment, wife made reduntant and third child on way. Fines or unnecessary outlay do make a difference at the moment, hence paranoia and bad driving.
