Per tonight's Manchester... Rashid Razaq reports on page 10

A teenage boy was left for dead after being hit by a car as he walked his sweetheart to a bus stop. On this occasion - a CCTV cam monitoring the bus shelter caught the secondthe 16 year old was flipped upside down by a motorist on Wellington Road, Ashton-under-Lyne.

Police are hoping the images will track the driver. :? The registration is S455 AOU per the Manchester paper and since it is published in the paper I do not think I am infringing any law by naming it in case anyone lurking can trace this guy? It was a Fiat Brava as well per paper.

The car did not stop and continued along Wellington Road. The incident occurred on 30 September..

....Despite CCTV - they have not traced after 16 days? :? :? :? Pah! Cameras!

Young Luke suffered head injuries and was treated at Tameside General before being transferred to Hope in Salford where he is now in a stable condition and out of ICU and in a recovery ward.

His father is very upset to think someone left him for dead. (:yesyes: as Papa - I know. You would go through hell to protect your kids and wish the most heinous and virulent pox on anyone who harmed them  )

His father urges anyone who has any information to come forward and bring this person to justice.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

The police found the car burnt out the day after this incident - near the swing bridge on Plantation Street by the canla in Dukinfield where they filmed the Corrie Killer Finale..... This tells me how effective cameras really are in detecting crime in any case as in "ZERO!" :censored: :furious: and it just confirms to me that we need MORE police and NO automation.

WPc Gaynor Wardle from the area raod policing in Mottram said

Quote:

The CCTV footage shows just how severe this collision was and we would like anyone who saw this to come forward.

Hold on! The whole point of CCTV surveilalnce is copping criminals :? :? :scratchchin:

Quote:

We wish to speak to anyone who saw this car being abandoned and set on fire

Yep ... CCTV cams work - NOT ... :banghead: BiB --- MORE PLEASE on road patrolling and some intelligence displayed .... PLEASE! More energy in copping criminals and less in chasing some bloke who tries it on to escape a £60 fine and quarter of licence.... :x

Quote:

I would personally apppeal to the driver to give himself up and look to his conscience

:banghead: More than likely an illiterate scrote - high on drugs and drink and with no regard for any authority whatsoever. Some hope!

However... on the remote off-chance that anyone lurking on this site saw anything or the driver is lurking here....and if he is... please do us all a favour and own up.

Please call Crimestoppers - 0800 555 111 if you have any information.

having seen a photo of the incident I do wonder why he decided to walk in front of the only car on the road.

It never ceases to amaze me. Police cars (sirens/lights), cars, buses , motorbikes, bikes... and people are so impatient that they cannot wait a fraction of a second or walk up to a safe crossing. Then they wonder why someone collides with them....

If only jay-walking were also made an offence.....

This is often raised on this forum, but is impossible apart from in areas where there are very frequent designated pedestrian crossings, perhaps every 200 yards or closer.

You can't make "misjudgment when crossing the road" an offence.

Why not?

At least "crossing the road without due care and attention".

If only   If only...

Actually there is a follow up this this story in tonight's Manchester. On page 15 - same reporter writing.

Young AS student Luke has been discharged following surgery to remove a brain clot following the incident and treatment for a fractured skull. He cannot remember that much and wants to get back to normal life. However he wants the driver who ran over him at 10.30 pm near Ashton bus station to be caught....

However, the incident is a damning indictment as to how CCTV and speed cameras are pretty useless in copping joy riders as this car was caught on camera two weeks ago, found burnt out the next day and police no wiser as to who was driving - other than car appears to have been stolen....

I just see this sorry episode as one more reason to restore traffic police patrosl to pre-scam levels......

It’s also sending out the wrong message to car thieves and joy riders, as they will know that cameras have no effect on catching them. These sort of situations will escalate until the Government and the Police see sense and realise that you cannot catch these sort of people by use of CCTV’s.

It goes back further than when they started introducing Speed Cams, its goes back to when the governments stopped investing money into our police forces, cutting back on expenditure. My local police station was once thriving now its merely a satellite station, if you go inside its absolutely disgusting, I wouldn't like to work in there if I was a police officer, the way they've let it deteriorate.

at least it's open. Our local one is open 9-5 IF you're lucky. Most days it seems to be closed.
The next closest is not staffed by police, so completely useless if you want something done, not that the police around here can be arsed doing anything anyway, and only open until 8pm.

TBH I’m not sure what my local police station is used for (I’ve not used it for a long time as you say useless anyway) I think its only for producing and admin etc. If you call the police (so called HQ) It's 8 miles away.

Headlining the Bolton Evening this evening - one very tragic tale reported by Lucie McFall.

A nine year old girl was killed by a hit and run as she crossed Kay Street, Bolton town centre at 9 pm last night. Two pals aged 11 and 15 were with her and watched in horror as the red Corsa drove away from the scene. The cat is believed to be a dark coloured Vx Corsa and was last seen heading south down St Peter's way

The little girl was hit yards from the pavement and suffered multiple injuries. Despite the efforts of the paramedic, she died at the scene  The whole area was closed off and currently a 19 year old is helping polcie with their enquiries. However, if anyone out there saw anything.. call 0161 856 7201.

I happen to know this area of Bolton. It's 40 mph dual carriageway I think leading up to St Peter's Way (was 70 mph and now 50 mph) which runs to the M61/M60 networks There is a photo and I think she was hit at the first set of lights after Blackburn Road where there is a Ford garage and a shopping complex. Fast road here with three lanes of traffic and one right lane turn lane - per photo.

Girl is from the Tonge Moor area and if I remember rightly - there's quite a walk to that area from the town centre.

Not sure I would have allowed 9 year old out in town so late in dark autumn nights though.

Am a strict Papa  - my 12 year old girl has to be back by 8.30/ 9 pm and the twins - they're 16 we upped to 10.30/11 pm latest unless we agreed a particular function and if a late film - we meet them.

The Government know that CCTV isn't the answer, there are plenty of reports out there that simply show CCTV has marginal effects on crime. It's simply no replacement for police but they've relied on it so much now and invested so much they can't and don't really want to go back to the drawing room.

The way I see it your average theft or burglery committed is by opportunists so it can be absolutely anywhere and thats where cameras fail because they are static. It's no replacement for the average bobby on the beat to act as quick responces.

More on the 9 year old girl. Her parents are appealing to the Corsa driver to give himself up. The limit at this area is 30 mph and police and medicsw estimate the child was hit at 50 mph from the injuries. They think the car approached Kay Street from Halliwell Road. (Crossed A666 Blackburn Road? :? ) Supt Durkin leads the enquiry and wants any information relating per the "BEN". CCTV cams are being viewed and police today apparently closed off two lanes today as they hunted for evidence. The Super in charge is anxious to talk to two men driving a dark/turquoise Corsa re P645 something who arrived at the scene after the incident.

The car which hit the 9 year old was a Vx with inted windows and wide tyres. 19 year old was arrested and released on bail....

Anyone who thinks they have information should call Bolton CID on 0161-856 5740/5717

update and perhaps this should be in reply to chap on the Nonny forum///

An 18 year old appeared before Bolton magistrates today accused of causing this 9 year old's death by dangerous driving. He is also accused of failing to report and accident and leaving the scene of the accident. He is also accused of trying to pervert the course of justice by sending falso text messages to provide an alibi to the police for the time of the incident.

An application for bail was refused and the accused is on remand.

Now article in local paper - "Snatch Back" - quite simply bloke had his car nicked. Mates told him it was seen in area - he went out and found it , called police and waited , waited , waited called, called , total of five times .Response from police basically states they were too busy.
So he recovered his stolen property.Police are investigating the lack of response - sorry - police are "reviewing the incident" - so in this crazy world the owner would expect police to turn up and charge him with theft
