I’ve just walked down town to go to the bank (I do this because traffic is bad and there’s usually nowhere to park). Walking down the main road you come to a cross road junction with traffic lights, and the road is two lanes as you are approaching the lights. The right hand lane is for right turning, and as usual there’s lots of traffic causing hold-ups on the main road after the lights (after the lights the road becomes SC).

Two police cars have just come out of our local police station and are approaching the lights in the right hand lane (for right turning) one behind the other, they stay in the right hand lane and end up stopped behind two cars (both indicating right) waiting to turn right (no indication from the police cars they intend to turn right).

The lights change to green and the cars in the right hand lane (who want to turn right) are held up by cars coming in the other direction. The two police cars wait a while, and then the police car at the back decides he’s had enough so starts to try and get into the left hand lane (obviously he wanted to go straight on) which is also busy, eventually he finds a gap and ends up stopped in the middle of the junction due to congestion in front. When the police car (who was in front) sees his mate has got through, he then decides to indicate to cut across into the left hand lane (at the same time the two cars that where in font of him have now gone right) so he carries straight on (obviously he wanted to go straight on also) and ends up sat at the side of the other police car in the middle of the junction (the road in front narrows to one lane). Both police cars are now stuck in the middle of the juntion and are now holding up cars trying to turn right from the other side (which in turn is holding up traffic behind them).

What would have happened if this had been you or I?

Well from my own experiences, the local coppers seem to be abusing their powers no end - I've seen some bloody appauling driving from them.

On Kingsheath high street (birmingham) sometimes the panda cars park at a bus stop, in the red area marked bus stop!!!!!!!!!
This is so that they can get to Kwik save quickly and get food and drink.

Haven't you already learnt????

The filth do whatever they want these days, and expect Joe Public (you & I) to accept it.

Even if you do put in a complaint, it will be 'whitewashed' way before it is ever investigated properly (yes, I can prove this statement).

In short, I wouldn't piss on todays old bill if they were on fire.

Also my sentiments :) and yes I have learnt (a long time ago), and I wouldn’t bother writing in myself, not worth the effort. Just thought it was worth posting.

Depends what's in the pee   as to whether it would put out the fire  anyway!

There is some pee you would not light a match near :yikes:

But I don't and never have done what I want or been a law to myself...

If people put in a complaint to me - it gets taken seriously. Did investigate a couple of the lads over something or other a longish while back now - was 40/60 in reality - and they really felt my full "acid" lecture over their part in it all. We did not - er - tell the complainant about the internal disciplinary though. Just cos you hear nothing doe not thus mean a "whitewwash" - we have to be fair to our employees and afford them a degree of confidentiality.

Sound fair enough to you?

A38 nr Plymouth yesterday.

Police Volvo I'd just seen by the roadside came barrelling past me in the fast lane. Doing about 95 with no blue lights on.

Whenever he came up behind someone, he would brake at the last minute, then sit about HALF A CAR'S LENGTH behind them until they moved over. Some of them oved over rather rashly, having presumably just noticed him.

Anyone else who drove like this would be called an "arsehole"

There you are then - can happen to anyone to choose the wrong lane

I am sure - cough- ahem - discretion would be offered to all in similar circumstances ....

Of course if there was a yellow box - fine of £100 on that one

Agree - seems they were a bit numpty on this occasion .... must be the tea in their canteen perhaps...or poor quality doughnuts ....

I've noticed that, whenever the BiB are caught doing something, they are rarely prosecuted- they appear to receive a "good talking-to" from a superior officer instead. SO:
Police forces everywhere, should you catch me being a naughty boy, don't take the soft option of points and a fine- go all the way, and give me a good tongue lashing instead. Feel free to use sarcasm, hyperbole and even the odd nasty personal remark. I know it will leave me distraught, but I probably deserved it, and me and my clean licence will recover.

If any of our lads do this - I need to hear about itl! We tell 'em to use the lights and the whoo-whoos unless we are too close to a scene of crime - in which case we want to "stealth" cop 'em and not give
'em chance to do a runner.

But Johnny lad - unless you were keeping pace at 95 mph - how would you know what distance the guy kept behind ?

Am :bib: tha know!!

Actually - a "disciplianry" is a very serious matter - goes on your personnel record and can seriously affect promotion prospects even if you come in top five of the exams.

Amazing - cannot do right for doing wrong. If uyou get pulled by my lads/lasses - you deserved the pull. If they give you a talking to and no fine - means they think you'll benefit more long term from the advice (COAST based  ) - and our talking to is based on what was seen and some tips as to how to avoid in the future. If we decide to fine as well - you will have been well above our already generous margin for error

We don't do nasty personal remarks either as this is deemed unprofessional and counter productive under the circumstances. When I say "acid" - sternish , firmish with some friendliness - but always polite in essence.

Of course - this is Durham as per present policy which works well and which we strive as constant to improve anyway - so rest assured if we decide to impose fine here - you did deserve it.

Why don't you get points and a fine (just like everyone else, for breaking the law) AND a disciplinary( because you of all people really should know better)?
And I know the limits can be INCREDIBLY generous when the driver gets out and flashes a warrant card.

If it's a 40 limit and you're prepared to let me go for doing, say, 46, why should I get stuck on for doing 1 or 2 mph over that ? Repeat after me: speed kills, speed kills etc ad nauseum.

We do get endorsements on our licences if we break the law - just like anyone else. We also get a right rollicking as well over it.

Nope - that does not happen either. Not here anyways.

Depends on what is seen. and observed - we've issued fines and endorsements at 10% + 2 and lower even if we thought the manoeuvre was downright dangerous. You do not have to be at or below speed limit to cop a careless charge if you were being a bit silly behind the wheel!

Then again - we've let people go at higher speeds with a stern warning. But it's our judgement call on the line and we'll go after obvious idiots befoe we nit pick.

Given that I was fully aware of a police patrol car near me, I was doing an anonymous 75, clearly.

In Gear-
it is, of course, possible that you and your colleagues are amongst the sensible ones who live in the real world- sadly, you are greatly outnumbered by the rest.
As I mentioned in another posting:
08.00hrs on a bright Saturday morning in May, and the roads are virtually empty. I'm in a one-way system half a mile long and FOUR lanes wide, dead straight and flat, and I get done for doing 37 in a 30.
Justify that, other than repeating "you broke the law".

Gatso or :stop:? Any concealed junctions? Plethora of bus stops? :? :?

We'd tend to let that go here under those circumstances as you describe . Nit picking does not do much to help relations... :furious: :banghead:

As said in another thread on here - we do rely on good relations to solve crimes - and if it continues to get undermined by some unwise nit picking and political correctness we are heading for some bumpy rides! .
