Pratnerships, are you reading this?
Please enlighten me as to how the following (actual) example made the road safer, and wasn't about raising cash:
Having finished a night shift, I'm going home at 06.30 hrs on Whit. Monday morning i.e. a bank hol. It's beautifully sunny, and I'm on a dual carriageway (40 limit). I am the ONLY vehicle on the road, I'm purring along at 50, when ahead of me I see a white van parked on the pavement (facing the wrong way) by the traffic lights of a pelican crossing. There's an orange light on the roof (not switched on), and that's it- obviously someone working on the traffic lights. As I draw level with the van, I read (in very small print on the door) "safety camera partnership". ANCHORS ON !!!!!!!!!
And as I pass the van there's a bloke with a laser on a tripod hiding behind it, ready to zap me.

On the Salisbury to Blandford Road, in Wiltshire, is a small village which starts out as a 40, then a 30, then back to 40, then the houses stop and you go back to rural countryside with no pedestrian access.

As you leave the village, there is a slight left hand curve which does NOT affect your sight of the road, as you can see both nsl signs but you cannot see the hidden scamera van in the gateway just in front of them.

Safety? Yeah right. Just the Willshite and Swindle Parsnips building their little empire.

Yep - don't forget they have to rake back the money they have lost through folly bottom

if you all started to photograph these instances and then send the photo's with your feelings about what the pratnerships are up to, for the attention of Dr.Steven Ladyman (even a letter without a photo would do) he might just start to see the bigger picture. I am already doing this, and I think it would have far more effect if thousands of people started hounding him this way rather than vent their feelings on websites which have no real benefit.

I have emailed him with a couple of photos on 29th Nov. No reply.

Dear Sir

I must say that I am impressed that you braved all and sundry to appear on Top Gear. Bravo and well done.

I must also say that you appear to be a reasonable person who actually believes in the speed camera partnerships, but your facts as stated are wrong.

If, as you stated, the cameras are all painted yellow and are there to slow people down, and lives are being saved, then I, and I think most other people, would be in favour of them.

But. the partnerships are sneaky and tell lies. They are destroying the respect that the public have for the Police Force in this country.

I would love to send you 'my story' but am uncertain that it would be read. If you are interested, perhaps you would let me know and I would be happy to tell you why you are losing the respect of the Public in the UK.

I have attached a couple of photos for your information. The first is from the place where I was photographed and the van in the distance (further away than you can see) and also one of the highly visible yellow cameras I spotted whilst in Dorset.

Yours faithfully

The camera in Dorset is a small, hidden black, mini gatso

I do carry a video camera now and will video these people and send the video to Ladyman, my MP, and their CC. ermmm and Paul if he wants them :)

Well done Quattro- good work. Why do people not realise that bleating about these things on the internet is not going to acheive anything. Actions such as -writing, sending photo's etc.... to your MP and ladyman and his like will carry far more clout.

I personally feel that an awful lot of people on these sites just want a moan but do not have the guts to do anything about the state of play in this country.

This is just in the nature of the British people. We like to complain but, in the end, just sit there and take it. Writing a letter and finding out who to send it to takes time and we all have busy lives. Being able to use e-mail would help.

It's not just Ladyman - you need to plug away at the media.

Early this year a local presenter interviewed a representative of BRAKE, (following the AA announcement that they were prepared to back 80 mph limits on motorways) who was allowed to spout all sorts of nonsense unchallenged.

I responded with this email:

Subject: 80mph Speed limit on Motorways

Dear Belinda,
I heard the interview with the spokeswoman from BRAKE, and I was amazed at her lack of knowledge and understanding of the news item.
She quoted congested traffic, and the speed being unsuitable under those circumstances, and questioned the safety of the crash barriers!
I suggest that to balance her views, you should investigate the causes of accidents on the M6 in Cumbria, and the speeds recorded on it.
I dont recall anyone ever saying the crash barriers were inadequate, although the section of Shap is particularly praised for the separation of the two carriageways!

The AA has after many years of opposing the 80 mph limit, suggested that the limit could be made a part of the governments Variable Speed Limits initiative - where maximum speeds can be varied according to the conditions.
They may well be SLOWER than 70 in some circumstances.
The dual limit works well in France - 130 kph in GOOD conditions, and 110 kph in wet or inclement conditions.
When next you speak to this lady, you might wish to research the Safespeed website (www.safespeed.org.uk) and be in a position to challenge the views of BRAKE from a position of knowledge.

Last week this same presenter interviewed Paul, and without being one sided, asked all the right questions, and led Paul to the point where he could respond with positive comments. She was knowledgable enough to ask deeper questions which then allowed Paul to elaborate on some crucial points.
What a difference between then and now!!

I tried this and did not get one reply.

I then re sent all of the emails after finding the relevant MP's web pages and clicking on the contact links.

I now have 3 out of 5 replies.

I don't think much of the 'writetothem' site tbh.

Did you remember to click on the confirmation link write to them send to you? If not, it doesn't get sent. Although saying that I sent an email to my MP before Xmas and I haven't heard a peep out of him yet. I did give him quite a few points to digest though so I'd imagine it will take him sometime to get back to me.

I've used the writetothem site to contact my MP 3 times. So far the success rate for replies is 100%.

Your right about the conscientiousness of MP’s, sad to say but mine is a Blair lapdog who is not interested in speaking out when it comes to peoples welfare.

As for the camera, I carry one in my car, and while on my motor cycle, but unfortunately it's not for the purpose of learning, I might one day need to use it as defence.
:(
