They are claiming a reduction in injuries at camera sites and overall. See:

http://www.shropshirestar.com/news/publ ... 3504.shtml

Interestingly they have this to say...

Shropshire Star wrote:
All "personal injury" collisions, whatever the severity, fell by 41 per cent throughout Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

OK so no actual figures are presented (there are some in the print version of the paper) but it seems like driver response to incidents was aided by an overall reduction in speed.

Elsewhere in the paper they printed of few of the pathetic excuses people had given after being caught driving badly.

"I was running out of petrol"
"I couldn't see the crossing because of the people in the road"

Does this suggest that folks really don't take the process of driving as seriously as they should?

Being a Shropshire lad I intend to write to the Shropshire Star, as I often do, to query one or two things.

For example, I'm going to highlight that West Mercia had an unusually high number of deaths in 2002 and what we are seeing is regression to the mean.

They also tabulate scamera site mean speeds before and after along with "speeding" before and after. Three of the sites have seen an increase in the mean and speeding, so have they actually seen an increase in ksi's at these sites?

Does anybody know where I can find West Mercia KSI figures for the last few years?

Thanks

Leicester were claiming similar success earlier this year. Casualties down for 03. What they did not mention was the 21% rise in 02. You need to dig deeper into the figures.

They take average over the last 3 years and compare it with the last. therefore the following applies:-
00 killed 5
01 killed 2
02 killed 2
Average 3

03 killed 2 therefore a 33% reduction.....just by magic. actualy zero. :?

when they say success does it mean they made them angle grinder proof? I understand the one on Bennets Bank (that got me dad) has had a meeting with one of Dewalts finest.

It got angle-grinded about a week after being first put up. Do you mean it's been done again recently?

Nah, that Truvelo is a bit charred on one side where it looks like someone has had a go at it with a flamethrower, but it's still standing and snapping away (click-ching).
