:o :o :o

"Express" today - Sarah Harris reports on page 45.

A secondary school is to name and shame parents who park "dangerously outisde the gates - putting pupils in peril"

The school intends to take photos of parents who park illegally or  :x block traffic  iand publish them in the local paper..

Dozens so far have been displayed in the evening paper relating to High Wycombe, Bucks. Highcrest Community High is the school whose headteacher - "desperate" Sheena Moynihan decided to take the drastic action "normally reserved for criminals"

(Hmmmm! methinks she's after publicity .... hmmmm! Why is she not encouraging these children to walk, cycle or take the school bus .. )

Per the paper - she's been warning parents for months over daft parking.

(Jessika (Wildy's Swiss Headteacher cousin based in Merseyside) simply invited her parents to a road safety "workshop" - which proved so successful that she now has this as an oversubscribed evening class. Of course - it's COAST . hazard aware DVD games, Highway Code "fun quizes" and basic car maintenance combined with some cycling and Green Cross too.) My own teacher sisters run a similar session at their respective schools - and they have a surprisingly high take up - they've even roped in a retired ADI to do the teaching too. 8-) :lol: }

However, for Ms Moyniham - the final straw occurred when an 8 year old at the neighbouring primary got run over whilst crossing with a lolly lady :banghead: The schools are over-subscribed as "up in the charts of school league tables and children live "outside the catchment area"

Hmmm! So what happens to those who live in the catchment area and who cannot secure a place? Why do they not get a place? Covert selection procedures? We really do need to get all schools improved and level pegging and we also have to remember that not all kids are "academic" and accept that their intelligence manifests in some more practical skill.

(but that's a different rant! )

Back to the parking problem at this school. School is on a hill and the headteacher says this hill makes it difficult for drivers to see kids - especially with cars parked by muppet parents. She also says there is a car park opposite the schools which parents can use to drop off their youngsters.

Even a police car on a 999 shout could not negotiate its way through the double parked  cars.

Bucks Free Press swooped this week at the request of the headteacher. They took photos of

1. a 4x4 driver who refused to identify him self and who mounted the pavement and forced a woman pushing a baby in a pram and walking her two primary aged children to school to move to a grass verge.

2. Another blocked the entire width of the pavement whilst waiting to collect his children. He promised not to do it again

3. Woman in a Nissan Sunny was unrepentant. "It's not causing ME any harm - People will just have to go around me" :censored:  :banghead:

In the meantime a plastic police officer is repeatedly telling these parents to buckle up themselves and their children, driveways are blocked and traffic struggles to crawl past.

TVP, Bucks CC and the Highways Agency are backing the headteacher.

I can sympathise and understand the problem.. but when Wildy's cousin (known to former CSPC forummers as Jessika Tiger) had problems at her school when she first took on the Head role - she did film the antics. She then invited all parents to an informal meeting for each year group and played it back. She then got all parents to chat about how to improve their skills and this spun into her current evening class as she seemed to inspire them to want to improve. But then this girl turned a stinker of a school in special measures to storm up the school pop charts and it's just outside the top ten in Liverpool after languishing third from the bottom.

Living near the school in question there was one slight problem having published their indexes and in some cases the drivers pictures within the paper. NONE OF THEM HAD COMMITTED AN OFFENCE!!

For good measure, I checked, there are no lines nor are there signs to indicate any restrictions other than outside the school itself and no-one parked there anyway.

The 4x4 mentioned had not mounted the pavement in the fashion mentioned, it was already parked, the grass verge is wide enough for another two vehicles and the pavement was still wide enough for two buggies sid-by-side to pass. Journalists p!ss me off, they're lying scum as are the "authorities".

It's a load of codswallop and is purely based upon congestion and not having crossing facilities nor bays. The problem is a symptom of poor road planning, not lawbreaking.

I truly hope those with their cars featured last week will sue.

So you know the area do you Johnsher? I drive past this school on a regular basis, it is less than a mile from my home and it is no different to any other.

Here you go, this is the 4x4 in question which nearly had nearly "mown" down these pedestrians, if the car had just pulled up then you'd expect to see brake lights no? Apart from the car hating morons who we have to unfortunately inhabit this island with, please indicate where exactly this driver is causing an obstruction! Notice too, lack of yellow lines or indeed signs and the fact that the diver is outside of the yellow zigag.

MM - would be interesting to have a national survey of how many children are ferried cross town to school, with an adequate ( in the eyes of others who ferry vice versa) school close bye. Although with some schools having different curiculum , this could be justified.

With regard to the pedestrian crossing - few years our local residents association was tasked with getting a pedestrian crossing on a local road ( one reduced to 20 , but with a high volume of traffic etc). Our County Councillor asked , to be told that there was no justification in accident terms .

Same old story - wait for accidents ,then put in crossings ( and of course gives scam mob excuse under heading of child killers) --in meantime - the kids and parents dice with death , with no backing.

We did get VAS - and a high percentage of the time faulty .

exactly, so do I need to know your actual area? The same sort of obnoxious behaviour by parents was going on even when I was at school - in another country! The only cure was to bring in the BiB at random times to sort them out.

well they're needlessly parked on a footpath for a start. People want to have a go at "cyclists" for riding on them and then condone this sort of thing?

Jonsher - thats what happened when one of mine was at infant school - in those days we had proper policemen - nowadays --we see a PCSO (plastic constable sans ordinance) turn up - no dogs fouling, no bikers withouit lights, will make a note of it , and off they go .

Gotten so bad that we now have an ad about lollipop ladies .

They're not committing any offences so what good would BiB do? The only problem is congestion and that's not an offence is it? Congestion's a sympton to a problem, generally by virtue that kids no longer walk or cycle to school.

Parking on the pavement, where's the obstruction? There's clear passage, that's not an obstruction by any stretch of the term; in fact the driver is displaying an observant attitude to both pedestrian and motorist if the picture is anything to go by. Stop trying to evade the issue by being so petty.

The fact is, this paper has no right to "name and shame" people for going about their lawful business. If the school has an issue with congestion then they should pertition the council. I'm sick and tired of lawful motorists carrying the can for the failing of others.

Now there seems to be double standards at work here ----

School , under pretext of rad safety , decides to name and shame.

Shopkeeper , having been robbed, and getting culprits on tape , puts up photos, - he breaks human rights act.

Now , where does the schol stand WRT human rights ast????

But they are all supposed to follow "The National Curriculum" these days. When schools label themselves "Sports", "IT", "Languages", "Drama", "Science" colleges and so on.. all this means is that they got extra cash for sports facilities, computers, language labs and perhaps computers for language use specifically with video conferencing facilities to other similar schools and they offer more than one foreign language, drama gets a stage, science get labs.. and so on. The other part of the deal is that the 40% have to obtain at least a Grade C GCSE in the school's "specialism" So they are committed to the "specialism" until Year 11 - so they cannot opt out of say Drama or Languages or Sports Studies (which is not the same as PE or Games  ) if they dislike these subjects.

Tis all a bit of a con really!

Ours? I send my own riff raff to an independent as only way I can guarantee some "discipline" They are too much like their mother! sassy!

Our fosters have to attend the school stipulated by the authorities and usually they go to the local county run school which is quite good overall.

They take the school bus or we drive them and drop near the stop. The fosters - especially the long term wayward mid-teen - either me or Wildy physically take and walk him into the classroom!

As the twins are now learning to drive ... they had their first lesson on Saturday, and they all this week they have a driving lesson after class finishes and one in a free period (they are allowed a "pass out" as Year 12 students) - and we booked one each for the school run itself! for later this week!...

You make a very good point Botach with regards to the human rights element, especially bearing in mind however two persons were photographed, I would be interested in how defammation would come into play here.

You really cannot drive above 15 mph or less near any school at peak. Why I am being really   to the twins by booking a school run lesson at end of their term  The other kids will go to school as normal on the school bus.

(They'll have clocked up 10 formal lessons each by this stage. They turned 17 a couple of days or so ago... Am giving them more lessons than their older brother at this stage...)
