We've discussed it before:

and even had a poll:

anyone got a copy of this knocking about?

being placed in the "no right to contest" situation is undemocratic and unlawfull to begin with, but then being "convicted" with flawed equipment is taking the pi55. having a good understanding of maths & physics I can totally appreciate the slip over hundreds of yards effect arguement, especially when modern cars don't have a flat panel on them.

oh, and as for the "uk version" of the 20.20, sounds to me like someone either did it on the cheap "yeah we'll just take the hardware and write our own software" and/or this "ex-police officer" running the supply company is using his home office connections to get rich.

out of intrest, what does a laser gun read if it's pointed in the proximity of an infra-red emitting lamp?

Hi Chaps.

This is my first post on these forums :hello: but I'm sure some of you will know me from others.

Sorry to dredge this up again. I have read this thread with interest. I'm an electronics engineer, I also happen to know the surrounding patents for the LTI off by heart.

I'm not trying to blow my own trumpet, but the exchange between Steve Callahan and I may raise some eyebrows - here:

recent posts are at the top

If nothing else, there’s certainly a case to answer for.

Welcome Smeggy! :welcome:
I have been admiring your posts on the Insideout site. I hope Steve Callaghan's fracas with myself did not detract from his addressing your questions!! I see a couple of people kept him online by reminding him!!

You had better appraise yourself of the current situation here, as the Thought Police have banned me from using the Pinocchio emoticon when describing Steve, as the alt-text on mouseover reads "liar"! :o
I guess your turning up here might be construed as a conspiracy, rendering us to action under the prevention of terrorism act!

 :book:
I hope my description which was called into question by Mr Callaghan did not embarrass me then!!

Hi Smeggy,

Yes, i have read your posts on inside out with a great deal of interest. I still don't believe that SC answered your question. Can't begin to imagine why that may be

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and gals. :drink:

Don't worry Dixie, I'm not going anywhere. However, I already spend far too much time on PH, so I won't be posting here quite so frequently. (I notice there are a lot of '1 post wonders' here).

johno1066, SC didn't really answer anybody's questions did he? Don't worry, I won't 'let it lie'!

Your post was correct Ernest, I just took it a few steps further.

Now how do I become a member...... :)

That's easy mate, if you goto the homepage, then the membership details are on there. Excellant, another shiny badge holder.

See this: http://www.safespeed.org.uk/join.html

And especially right now, see this http://www.safespeed.org.uk/appeal.html

I haven't updated the appeal page for a while, but that's really because the funds stopped flowing. It's probably just reached £16,000 (I'll have to catch up over the weeked).

Chaps, have a look at the slip error thread. CPS dropped the case.

All the information I have gained on the LTI20.20 is that it is primarily designed for measuring distance, its speed measuring capabilities are secondary

Exactly, however the trouble with measuring distance line of sight, is that it doesn't take into consideration dead ground.

Say for example a car is travelling down, then up a hill. Line of site would have ou beleive that the car is only 300 metres away yet with dead ground, the car actually travels 350 metres. I use it in map reading all the time and it is surprising how much extra distance you travel using dead ground. It would be interesting to see if dead ground makes a difference with regards to camera reading etc.

Sounds to me like you’re talking about a variation of the cosine effect (in the vertical plane instead of the horizontal). The gun can’t detect the angle of travel of a vehicle, hence it will only result with a lower than actual speed displayed on the gun - in the favour of the motorist.

Interesting!! I thought (but hadn't worked it out) that this would be favourable to the motorist, are there similiar instances that you could foresee where it wouldn't be favourable?
